This Labor Day Weekend, load up your mountain bikes and bring your appetites to the 2015 Signal Peak Fat Tire Festival! Guided mountain bike rides, a pit BBQ and serene camping opportunities in the Gila National Forest combine to make this a weekend you won’t want to miss! After the Signal Fire of 2014, Signal Peak Road is still officially closed, meaning a race on the traditional race course is out of the question. So for 2015 we will be celebrating the area by guiding mountain bike rides and enjoying the traditional Saturday night pit BBQ. On Saturday September 5th a group mountain bike ride will head up and down the Little Cherry Creek Trail at 2:00pm. A challenging climb to the top of Black Peak rewards riders with fantastic views and an excellent descent back to Hwy 15. On Saturday night at 5pm the BBQ will begin. After spending the night in the forest, a new ride out to the Sheep Corral will leave from the main staging area Sunday morning at 9am. Roughly 35 miles of rugged ‘Gila Proven’ terrain will test riders of all levels, and food will be provided in the staging area once riders return. Registration for the event costs $20. This includes riding and food on Saturday night. Riders can register online by visiting usacycling.org/register/20152694. Registration will also be available on site on Saturday and Sunday. For more information call the Gila Hike and Bike at 5753883222 or visit Signal Peak Challenge on Facebook.
